Oak Woods. 11" high x 6" diameter. Wheel-thrown red earthenware with hand-painted white maiolica glaze.

This wheel thrown form is maiolica glazed and hand-painted with many layers of mineral pigments. It was twice fired with the final firing to 1940 F. in an oxidation atmosphere. The imagery is inspired by the artist's local mountain environment where Gambel Oak trees grace the hillsides in abundance near her home and studio. In early spring, before the emergence of new green, the twisty, craggy branches of these brushy trees stand out and dominate the vertical landscape.
